Ten reasons to write ‘Please vote’ postcards to voters in swing states (through the Progressive Turnout Project, PTP)

1) You needn’t leave your home. Both the cards, the voter lists and the scripts are sent promptly to you via USPS by the Chicago-based Progressive Turnout Project.

2) You get to pick WHERE to write: Senate race, a House race, a particular state

3) You get to pick WHEN to write: Whenever you please, all at once or 20 at a time, on your porch or in your kitchen, listening to music or a podcast

4) You get to pick WHAT to write: You’re given three short poll-tested scripts (between 18 and 23 words each) -all of which are proven to be effective

5) It’s cheap. Postcard stamps are just 65 cents each. And easy to get. You just order them from the US post office. And they’re delivered to your door by – you guessed it – US mail!

6) It’s carefully targeted. The PTP *only concentrates on races that are very close.

7) It’s not persuasion. Persuading people to change their minds is very hard. It’s much easier to mobilize those who already agree with you, which is what the PTP does.

8) It makes sense. When was the last time you got a hand-written ANYTHING in the mail? I’ll bet it caught your attention! Research shows that these messages are effective!

9) You can’t go wrong. Even if the voter NEVER TOUCHES the card, since there’s a ‘please vote on Nov. 3’ message on both sides, she or he will get the gist regardless.
